Requirements and responsibilities


Summary: This individual will have a strong technical background in Mechanical Engineering and experience in the design and manufacture of Downhole Fracturing and Completions Tools/Equipment. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this person must be motivated by the position and the culture at our client’s facility, which is highly entrepreneurial and dynamic. The individual must be a proven self-starter and detail-oriented. This position ideally requires Completions Tool or Drilling Tool experience, technical skill, practical skill, coupled with creative ability to work with cutting-edge technology related to specialized downhole tools. The candidate will be focused on both sustaining engineering as well as R\&D initiatives. The candidate will be a talented engineer but also have the drive and adaptability to jump into many aspects of the role from working on design to potentially turning a wrench to testing in the field. The candidate must be highly driven to join a successful team and must thrive in a “make it happen” culture and engage in their own development. Responsibilities: • Conceptual and detailed design of new oilfield and hydraulic fracturing and related Completions equipment. • Detailed design to include providing quality 3D models and 2D drawings that are complete with a structured manufacturing BOM and ready for production. • To provide timely engineering support to Operations by troubleshooting design and manufacturing issues and recommending solutions. • Collaborate with cross-functional team, including manufacturing, sales, and operations, to ensure that designs meet all technical, operational, and marketing requirements. • Plan and participate in shop and field-testing activities in support of R\&D and sustaining engineering projects. • To support R\&D efforts by researching new technologies and materials, driving innovation, and improving existing products. • Document and manage design changes, ensuring compliance and company document control procedures. • Represent Engineering in customer meetings when required, providing technical expertise and assisting in building relationships. • Other duties as assigned from time to time. Requirements: * Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is preferred. * P.Eng would be desirable. * Experience being a Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Technologist, or Field Technician. * Specialization in: Downhole tools, completions tools, hydraulic fracturing tools and procedures. * Proven and demonstratable technical skills are critical. * Should have strong understanding (or sufficient technical knowledge) about fracturing, downhole tools, and the process and tools and steps taken in completion work. * 10 years of experience preferred with a background in a Downhole Tools environment preferred. Background in MWD, rotary steerable tools, or logging tools may also be valuable. * High temperature, erosion, corrosion environments expertise. * Strong analytical skills required and the ability to back-up with empirical data. * Practical experience taking designs from concept to a functioning prototype. * Strong analytical experience to analyze problems and decipher alternative solutions. * Role requires high level of engineering skill coupled with practical skills. * Must have the ability to remain composed and collected in conflict situations and deal with conflict in a manner that is respectful and calm. * Strong ability to work with autonomy but also in a team environment. * Must have a high tolerance for other people and various backgrounds and personality types. * Intuitive in foreseeing potential technical problems and developing appropriate solutions. Supplementary: * Critical: Expert experience using 3D software modeling. * SolidWorks and FEA experience. * Also good knowledge of Microsoft software including Excel. * Strong motivation towards always acting in a safe manner and promoting safety and a safety culture. * Background in the field with respect to completions or similar. * Experience in and strong knowledge of materials, particularly those used in downhole tools is very important. Knowledge of metallurgy and seals is an asset. * FEA package expertise is a good asset. * Experience in machining, welding, etc., could be an asset. * Experience in stress analysis. * The ability to “think outside the box”. * Could have experience in Wireline, Coil Tubing, Packers, Plug N Perf, Directional Drilling, MWD. * Downhole Tool design and manufacturing environment. * Exposure to mechanical design and tool manufacturing.
