Insight Global are seeking a Senior Chemistry Automation Engineer (Software Engineering focus) for a leading global pharmaceutical and life sciences organisation specialising in advanced drug discovery and laboratory automation.This position requires fully remote working in the UK for a 12-month contract, with strong potential for extension.We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to productionise an agent-driven lab automation platform. This platform orchestrates drug discovery workflows, spanning computational compound design through to robotic synthesis execution. The successful candidate will play a key role in hardening deployment pipelines, implementing enterprise-grade security controls, and ensuring platform scalability and observability in production.The environment combines a FastAPI/Python backend, React/TypeScript frontend, and Azure-based container infrastructure, with integrations into scientific systems, robotic scheduling platforms, and AI services.Key Responsibilities:Productionise and stabilise a Docker-based application stack for scalable deploymentImplement and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions with secure authenticationDesign and manage secure infrastructure using Azure servicesConfigure secret management via Azure Key Vault and enforce best practicesImplement managed identity, RBAC, and secure networking (VNet integration, private endpoints)Improve observability, monitoring, and resiliency of production workloadsCollaborate with cross-functional teams across software, data, and laboratory operationsMust-Have Requirements Include:Strong experience with Python and TypeScript/ReactHands-on expertise with Docker and Azure container hosting (e.g. Azure App Service, Container Apps, or similar)Experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, including OIDC/federated authenticationKnowledge of Azure Key Vault, secret management, and secure identity (Entra ID / managed identity)Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, Terraform, or similar)Solid understanding of secure networking within Azure environmentsPlusses Include:Experience working in scientific, R&D, or laboratory environmentsExposure to lab automation or instrument-driven workflowsExperience integrating software with physical systems (e.g. robotics, lab hardware)Familiarity with data pipelines and analytical systems in research environments
