Job DescriptionZoox is on an ambitious journey to develop a full-stack autonomous robotaxi and safely deploy a transformative mobility solution for cities. The AV Safety Data Analyst will actively work on mining current vehicle data and other internal/external data sources to help develop safety strategies, policies, best practices and process development specific to Zoox's overall safety approach and Safety Management System. These initiatives will further Zoox's commitment to continuous improvement of our safety culture, risk management, data assessment, and decision-making processes.As an AV Safety Data Analyst, you will work closely with a variety of partners, including software, operations, vehicle engineering, systems design and assurance, hardware, communications, policy and legal teams. You will conduct research, build metrics and models to assess, monitor, and diagnose the safety performance of our AV technology. You will drive measurability of safety and implement innovative processes that are rigorous, diligent and systematic, as well as applicable and repeatable as Zoox continues to scale, to ensure the highest level of safety in the organization and product.In this role you will:Facilitate, research, design, and implement innovative safety-data analysis methodologies and processes for quantified decision-making and guidance.Conduct exploratory data analyses to uncover trends, failure modes, and opportunities to improve vehicle behavior, specifically focusing on critical safety events and system anomaliesMine and triage internal/external incident databases to extract information to assess AV events including both system behavior and hardware related anomalies, for potential safety/legal/regulatory concerns or system gaps, using contextual judgment grounded in safety, legal, and engineering principlesDevelop dashboards for safety data monitoring and consumption by internal stakeholders to support data-driven strategy & decision-makingSupport internal and external investigations related to safety trends with data-driven and risk-based processes.Assist with formal reviews of safety programs with executive leadership and present data, findings and areas of improvementChampion strong safety culture at Zoox, and represent Zoox with key external stakeholders and organizationsQualificationsBS Degree in Computer Science, data analysis, statistics, or related field with at least 4-5 years of experience in the AV, Automotive, Aviation, Transportation, Defense, Robotics or other safety-focused industriesExperience gathering & using data to drive decision-making at various levels in an organizationSound analysis & statistical inference skills, with the ability to communicate uncertainty appropriately to engineering and business stakeholdersFamiliarity with SQL, Python, R, or ScalaMotivated self-starter and always looking to improve upon status quoBonus QualificationsPhD or Masters degree in data analytics, statistics, Engineering, Management or other transportation safety-related fieldExperience designing metrics and building mechanisms to fuel business insightsFamiliarity with existing AV safety-related industry best practicesFamiliarity with state and Federal Government regulations/practices regarding AVsThought-leadership in AV or other industry standards, or is an actively participating member of professional engineering or safety organizationsBase Salary Range$175,000 - $210,000 a yearThere are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.Zoox also offers a comprehensive package of benefits, including paid time off (e.g. sick leave, vacation, bereavement), unpaid time off, Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights, Amazon RSUs, health insurance, long-term care insurance, long-term and short-term disability insurance, and life insurance.
