About the Role
We are seeking a uniquely skilled Financial Controller & Litigation Support Analyst who blends accounting expertise with litigation-support capabilities. This hybrid role supports our family law practice by transforming raw financial data into clear, defensible, and court-ready financial analyses and exhibits. The position is responsible for delivering reconciled financial reports, cash-flow analysis, cost accounting, and business valuation support for complex family law matters.
The ideal candidate has strong bookkeeping, financial analysis, and forensic accounting aptitude-and preferably some legal training or experience working within legal workflows. This role significantly enhances our ability to manage financial complexities in divorce, custody, and support cases while reducing the analytical burden on our attorneys.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Analysis & Accounting
- Prepare and reconcile income and expense reports, cash-flow summaries, and supporting documentation.
- Compile financial data from bank statements, invoices, receipts, QuickBooks files, and other accounting sources.
- Perform managerial and cost accounting tasks, including:
- Budgeting & forecasting.
- Job costing.
- Operational and financial efficiency metrics.
- Conduct business valuation support, particularly for owner-operated businesses.
2. Litigation-Support & Exhibit Production
- Produce trial-ready financial exhibits with full evidentiary traceability.
- Ensure every figure is linked to a corresponding source document ("end-to-end verification").
- Generate financial summaries and analysis comparable to exhibits produced by opposing counsel.
- Translate complex data into clear, persuasive visuals suitable for filings, mediation, and trial.
3. Discovery Workflow Integration
- Work within the firm’s GoldFynch discovery platform.
- Upload, organize, tag, and authenticate financial documents.
- Coordinate with the firm’s discovery specialist to ensure accurate and complete document sets.
- Maintain organized, litigation-ready financial records throughout each case lifecycle.
4. Forensic Accounting & Investigative Support
- Review U.S. tax returns (including Schedule C filings) to:
- Identify discrepancies in reported expenses.
- Uncover potential undervaluation or income manipulation.
- Assist in determining enterprise vs. personal-service income.
- Support child support and spousal support calculations with fact-based financial modeling.
- Provide inputs and workpapers for expert witnesses to testify when needed.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong bookkeeping or accounting background.
- Experience preparing reconciliations, financial statements, and analytical summaries.
- Ability to manage large volumes of financial data with precision.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong evidentiary discipline.
Preferred
- Experience with forensic accounting or financial investigation.
- Background or education in law (JD, paralegal certificate, or equivalent exposure).
- Familiarity with family law financial issues (child support, spousal support, business valuation).
- Experience working with discovery tools (GoldFynch or similar).
