The Opportunity
We are looking for a talented PHP Developer for a 6-month contract project focused on modernizing our core platform. This is a great opportunity for an experienced developer to take ownership of key upgrade and migration initiatives, ensuring our codebase is up-to-date, secure, and ready for future growth. You will work closely with a cross-functional team and play a pivotal role in shaping the technical foundation of our application.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
* Update & Modernize Legacy Code:
* Lead initiatives to upgrade Laravel 8 to the latest version (Laravel 12).
* Migrate the PHP codebase from version 7.8 to version 8.3.
* Ensure backward compatibility, robust test coverage, and deployment readiness.
* Cloud & Infrastructure (AWS):
* Support the DevOps team in implementing AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Aurora, Kubernetes, etc.) to support the modernized application.
* Configure and manage Linux servers (Amazon Linux 2) and Apache web server environments.
* Analyze and optimize database schemas, indexes, and SQL queries for performance.
* Collaboration & Leadership:
* Cross-functionally collaborate with Product Managers, QA Engineers, and DevOps to ensure project success.
* Contribute to sprint planning and actively participate in all Agile ceremonies.
What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)
* 5+ years of professional software development experience with PHP using the Laravel framework.
* Proven experience upgrading Laravel applications, especially from version 8 to 12.
* Strong experience migrating PHP applications from 7.8 to 8.3.
* Experience with Linux server administration and Apache configurations.
* Hands-on experience with AWS services, particularly for hosting and storage.
* Strong MySQL database skills and optimized SQL query writing.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an Agile team.
Bonus if you have experience with:
* Docker, Terraform, or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
* Familiarity with front-end stacks (Angular).
* Experience with performance tuning and scaling applications in the cloud.
