Mercor is recruiting a select cohort of accomplished mathematicians to help advance the next generation of AI systems for scientific and mathematical reasoning.Mercor’s partner labs are developing frontier AI models capable of reasoning across a wide range of mathematical disciplines, including number theory, algebra, algebraic geometry, topology, analysis, partial differential equations, probability, combinatorics, dynamical systems, logic, representation theory, mathematical physics, and related areas of theoretical computer science and statistics. These models require contributions from researchers operating at the forefront of their fields.This is a W-2 employment opportunity with Cincinnatus LLC, requiring a part-time commitment of 8–20 hours per week. Selected candidates will work with a leading AI laboratory as part of its extended research workforce.What Mercor Is Looking For:Accomplished researchers with deep expertise in pure or applied mathematics.Experience conducting original research in advanced mathematical disciplines.Strong analytical and proof-based reasoning skillsAbility to identify subtle mathematical errors, invalid assumptions, and gaps in logical arguments.What You'll Do:Author and review challenging mathematics problems used to train and evaluate frontier AI models.Assess model outputs involving proof construction, verification, formalization, problem-solving, and conjecture exploration.Identify failure modes that only experienced mathematicians can detect, including unjustified steps, misapplied assumptions, incomplete arguments, and plausible but incorrect proofs.Collaborate with senior contributors and program teams to improve the mathematical reasoning capabilities of advanced AI systems.If your research background aligns with these requirements and you are interested in shaping the future of AI reasoning, Mercor would love to hear from you.
