Requirements and responsibilities


Responsibilities: - Monitor and ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, state privacy laws, and organizational privacy policies. - Investigate potential privacy breaches, incidents, and unauthorized disclosures of Protected Health Information (PHI). - Conduct privacy risk assessments and recommend corrective actions to mitigate compliance risks. - Perform audits of electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) and system access logs to identify inappropriate access or privacy violations. - Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Information Security, Health Information Management (HIM), and clinical departments on privacy-related matters. - Develop, maintain, and update privacy policies, procedures, and training materials. - Respond to privacy complaints and inquiries from patients, employees, providers, and regulatory agencies. - Track, document, and report privacy incidents, investigations, and corrective action plans. - Support regulatory audits and compliance reviews by preparing reports and documentation. - Analyze privacy-related data and metrics to identify trends and opportunities for process improvement. - Provide guidance to employees regarding privacy requirements and best practices for handling sensitive information. - Review and process patient requests related to access, amendment, restriction, and disclosure of medical records.
