Job DescriptionMedical Records Coordinators organize and maintain health information in paper files and electronic systems. In this position, you check data for accuracy, record information, and keep electronic databases up-to-date. Some of the data you manage includes patient information, medical histories, physician exams, test results, treatments, and services provided. In addition to clerical duties, you often consult with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate information. You must also follow best practices for security and patient confidentiality.ResponsibilitiesAppropriately and accurately pulls records for patient care, quality reviews, and audits in a timely mannerObserve confidentiality and safeguard all patient-related informationResponsible for coordinating the release of medical information to insurance companies, lawyers, and state and federal agenciesResponsible for processing subpoenas and court orders at the direction of the Medical Compliance OfficerReview policies and procedures as necessaryVerify authorizations per Orchid Health policy and procedures and state and federal lawsReceive electronic Medical Records Request through our EHR system (Athena)Keep abreast with new regulations in both federal and state laws concerning medical records/privacy/securityMaintain a good working relationship with Orchid Health team members.Adhere to Orchid Health requirements, policies, and standardsRequest outside records for all clinic sitesWork with the data team to complete quality measure chart auditsRequired QualificationsMinimum of 1 year of previous healthcare experience working with medical recordsKnowledge of health information management services (Athena knowledge is a plus)High school graduate or equivalentBasic computer knowledgeAbility to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situationsAbility to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitudeSkilled in managing multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and prioritizing the scheduling of workAbility to complete work assignments accurately and on timeAble to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingCapable of handling difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others professionallyYou possess genuine empathy and the desire to empower patients to reach their health goalsYou have a team player attitude and show consistent professionalismYou enjoy building relationships by listening well, asking questions, and helping patientsYou show compassion every day when dealing with patientsYou support your team and recognize them when they go above and beyondWork EnvironmentWhile in the clinic, team members may be exposed to viruses, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in the working environment.
