Responsibilities & more

About the Company: We’re a fast-moving, early-stage startup building AI-powered tools to modernize how cities, communities, and professionals make zoning and construction decisions. Our platform interprets complex zoning ordinances, building codes, and regulations—integrated with high-quality geospatial data—to deliver instant feasibility reports, 2D/3D studies, and actionable insights. We’re using advanced spatial algorithms and machine learning to compress what once took weeks into seconds. Our mission is to unlock bureaucratic bottlenecks and accelerate responsible development nationwide. What We Are Looking For: We’re hiring a GIS Engineer who’s passionate about building reliable, scalable systems for processing and analyzing spatial data. You’ll take ownership of our geospatial pipeline—from ingesting public datasets to structuring and tagging data for real-time AI systems. You’ll work directly with the CTO to lead development on our GIS infrastructure and build the foundation that drives all product functionality. If you care deeply about clean data, smart architecture, and impactful technology, this role is built for you. Responsibilities: * Ingest and manage GIS datasets from a wide range of sources. * Build data pipelines to normalize, validate, and transform spatial data. * Design and implement algorithms that extract zoning logic and geospatial relationships. * Run spatial analytics and identify data quality issues. * Use PostGIS for spatial queries, transformations, and data storage. * Write clean, maintainable Python code using libraries like Shapely. * Collaborate closely with technical leadership to align GIS systems with product goals. * Contribute to cloud infrastructure and deployment workflows (AWS – RDS, ECS). Qualifications: Required: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. * Strong hands-on experience with Python and PostGIS. * Deep understanding of GIS algorithms, spatial data structures, and coordinate systems. * Familiarity with the Shapely library or similar geospatial tools. * Experience working in cloud environments, ideally with AWS services. * Comfortable with fast-paced, startup environments and cross-functional collaboration. Nice to Have: * Experience working with zoning, urban planning, or real estate datasets. * Background in 2D/3D modeling or spatial visualization. * Knowledge of containerization tools (Docker, ECS, Kubernetes). * Interest in civic tech, infrastructure, or real-world applications of geospatial data. Why Join Us? * Foundational role—you’ll be the first engineer on the GIS team. * Work directly with founders and help shape both the product and technical roadmap. * Tackle high-impact problems with direct real-world outcomes. * Fully remote, flexible schedule, and high ownership from day one.
