This role operates at a multi-team level with broad organizational impact.What You’ll DoAs a Group IC, you will provide technical leadership across teams and platforms, driving architectural strategy, engineering excellence, and scalable system design for cloud-based applications. You will lead high-impact technical initiatives, influence long-term engineering direction, and collaborate closely with Engineering Managers, Product, Release Management, DevOps, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable solutions.This role will involve:Defining and maintaining the architectural vision across teams, platforms, and services to ensure scalability, reliability, maintainability, and long-term technical alignmentDriving architectural consistency across APIs, data models, infrastructure, system integrations, and software design patternsLeading major technical initiatives such as platform modernization, observability enhancements, performance optimization, scalability improvements, and reliability engineering effortsCoordinating cross-team technical projects and aligning engineering standards, infrastructure decisions, and roadmap priorities across organizationsSupporting Engineering Managers and Senior ICs in resolving complex technical design, architecture, and implementation challenges across multiple domainsEstablishing and promoting engineering best practices for code quality, automated testing, performance optimization, monitoring, security, and operational excellencePartnering with Release Management and DevOps teams to strengthen CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, release reliability, and incident response readinessIdentifying, prioritizing, and reducing systemic technical debt, architectural bottlenecks, and operational inefficiencies across teams and platformsConducting architecture reviews, technical deep dives, design sessions, and technical assessments to guide engineering decisions and solution directionMentoring and coaching senior and mid-level engineers while helping grow future Staff and Principal engineers through technical guidance and leadership developmentFostering a culture of engineering excellence, documentation, collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing across the organizationProactively identifying technical risks related to scalability, system architecture, cybersecurity, reliability, compliance, and data usageHelping balance and prioritize investments between new feature development, platform improvements, operational stability, and technical debt reductionActing as a technical leader in product and roadmap discussions, partnering with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, architects, and designers to align technical feasibility with business objectivesTranslating complex technical concepts, trade-offs, and architectural decisions into clear recommendations for leadership and cross-functional stakeholdersWhat You’ll Need to SucceedBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field with 10+ years of professional software engineering experienceProven experience operating as a Staff, Principal, or multi-team technical leader within complex engineering organizationsDeep expertise in distributed systems architecture, scalable backend systems, and modern cloud infrastructureStrong understanding of software engineering best practices including CI/CD, observability, testing strategies, and operational reliabilityExperience leading large cross-functional technical initiatives across multiple engineering teamsStrong systems design and architecture review experienceExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsDemonstrated ability to mentor and develop senior engineering talentStrong problem-solving and technical decision-making capabilitiesPreferred SkillsExperience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or AzureFamiliarity with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and infrastructure automationExperience improving developer platforms and engineering productivity toolingKnowledge of modern observability and monitoring systemsExperience in high-growth or large-scale distributed engineering environmentsPrior experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, or core systems developmentPerks of Being a Full-time Torc’rTorc cares about our team members and we strive to provide benefits and resources to support their health, work/life balance, and future.
