Requirements and responsibilities

About the jobFull Time$200,000–$400,000Wilmington, DE — candidates across DE / PA / MD / NJ / NY welcome, but must be barred in DEAbout the RoleAt Corgi, we’re building an automated insurance carrier. Our goal is to rebuild the $1T+ insurance industry from the ground up using AI. We’re not just building a company; we’re building infrastructure for the next hundred years. If you’ve built things from scratch and know what it means to move fast and own outcomes, we want you on the team. We’re well-funded and backed by top investors. We don’t care about traditional roles or titles— just that you’re smart, proactive, and bring your experience, ownership and drive to help us build something massive. As we scale, the disputes that shape our trajectory will land on your desk. We’re hiring an Associate General Counsel - Litigation to be the first-chair litigator for Corgi Insurance Services, Inc. on the East Coast. Someone who tries cases, doesn’t just supervise them.To be clear about the work: this is business litigation, commercial disputes in which Corgi itself is a party. This is not insurance-coverage or claims litigation. You’ll be defending and prosecuting the company’s own commercial matters. What You’ll DoYou’ll own Corgi’s litigation function on the East Coast end to end: in the courtroom on the matters you carry, and at the wheel directing strategy on the ones you don’t try yourself. This is a builder’s role, not a caretaker’s - you’ll set how a modern carrier litigates from the ground up.Key ResponsibilitiesFirst-chair Delaware matters. Carry Corgi’s litigation in Delaware courts as lead counsel - pleadings, motions, depositions, hearings, and trial.Direct East Coast disputes outside Delaware. Lead strategy on matters in other East Coast jurisdictions, appearing pro hac vice with local counsel where appropriate and otherwise managing the engagement.Own outside counsel. Select, budget, and actively manage outside firms - set strategy, hold them to it, and control spend rather than rubber-stamping invoices.Build the litigation playbook. Stand up Corgi’s approach to disputes, early case assessment, settlement posture, and litigation-readiness as the company scales.Advise the business. Partner with leadership to spot risk early, resolve disputes before they become cases, and keep litigation aligned with where the company is going. What We’re Looking ForAdmitted to the Delaware Bar and in good standing. This is a hard requirement — the role first-chairs Delaware matters, so DE admission is non-negotiable. (You do not need to live in Delaware; many DE-barred litigators commute from PA, MD, and NJ, and that’s fully welcome here.)5+ years of business/commercial litigation with real litigation experience - you’ve taken the company’s own commercial disputes (contract, partnership, vendor, employment, IP, and similar) through dispositive motions, trial, and the moments in between. This is general business litigation, not insurance-coverage work.Comfortable running outside counsel, not just doing the work yourself - you know how to set strategy, budget a matter, and hold a firm accountable.Founder-level ownership. You move fast, own outcomes, and don’t wait to be told how the function should run - you build it.Bonus: experience litigating for a company in a regulated industry, financial-services litigation experience, or familiarity with Delaware Chancery practice. (Insurance-industry exposure is a nice-to-have, not a requirement - we’re hiring for business-litigation skill first.)Why You Should JoinYou’ll be the litigation function— not a cog in one. First-chair autonomy, a direct line to leadership, and the chance to define how a next-generation insurance carrier handles disputes before the precedent gets set by someone else. The upside of a firm partnership without the billable-hour treadmill.Compensation$200,000–$400,000, commensurate with experience, plus equity and benefits.
