Tyto Athene is seeking a driven and adaptable Automation Engineer to help shape the future of secure, scalable infrastructure through modern automation practices. The Automation Engineer will work in diverse environments, supporting internal product teams, commercial security clients, and U.S. federal customers, while solving meaningful problems with cutting-edge tools like Ansible, Terraform, and GitLab CI/CD.Responsibilities:Serve as a subject matter expert in automation tools and practices, including Ansible, Terraform, and CI/CD platforms (e.g., GitLab)Architect, develop, and deploy Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions to support scalable and secure environmentsCollaborate with stakeholders to design, integrate, and operationalize automation within customer environmentsProvide advisory support to help teams mature and optimize automation capabilitiesBuild, maintain, and support configuration automation and Windows system hardening solutions using Ansible and Ansible Lockdown, including debugging workflows, resolving issues, and implementing enhancements into the codebaseActively support users by triaging and resolving support tickets, performing root cause analysis on automation issues such as playbook failures, and coordinating or implementing corrective fixesSolve complex infrastructure and security challenges using modern automation approaches with creativity and precisionIdentify and recommend improvements to customer architectures, with a focus on secure and regulated environmentsQualificationsRequired:US Citizenship (required for federal projects)5+ years of overall IT experience in systems, infrastructure, or automation roles3+ years of Windows Server administration experience, including Active Directory, Group Policy, patch management, and system hardeningProficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and administration of Windows Server environmentsHands-on experience with Ansible and Terraform for infrastructure automation and configuration managementExperience with Git-based CI/CD platforms such as GitHub or GitLab for version control and deployment workflowsProficiency with major cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across teamsDesired:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalentExperience working in federal or regulated environments (DoD, IC, or civilian agencies)Experience with security hardening standards such as STIGs or CIS benchmarksExperience with endpoint/server hardening tools such as Ansible Lockdown or similar compliance automation frameworksExperience with security configuration management tools such as Lockdown Suite (e.g., PolicyPak / endpoint security enforcement tooling)Familiarity with ITSM tools such as ServiceNowRelevant cloud or security certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, CompTIA Security+)Location: US (remote)Compensation:Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. The salary range for this position is typically between $115,000-$135,000 This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.Benefits:Highlights of our benefits include Health/Dental/Vision, 401(k) match, Paid Time Off, STD/LTD/Life Insurance, Referral Bonuses, professional development reimbursement, and parental leave.Tyto Athene is a trusted leader in IT services and solutions, delivering mission-focused digital transformation that drives measurable success.
