CATF has offices in Boston, Washington D.C., and Brussels, with staff working virtually around the world.RoleThe Director, Mass Market Acquisition and Engagement leads CATF’s mass marketing strategy to build, steward, and fundraise from a large, engaged base of digital supporters and subscribers—driving measurable growth in revenue, brand awareness, and influence. The role is responsible for creating and managing the end-to-end marketing funnel, including identification, targeting, acquisition, engagement, conversion, retention, and stewardship of CATF’s mass market audience. This role is a key member of CATF’s Communications and Marketing team and a close collaborator with its Development team, responsible for mass market fundraising.Key Functions and ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & PlanningDevelop and execute a comprehensive, organization-wide mass-market acquisition and engagement strategy and pipeline that supports CATF’s mission, revenue goals, and audience growth objectives.Lead multi-channel acquisition strategies (email, social, search, display, paid media, and events) that build and diversify CATF’s supporter base.Establish key performance indicators and optimize the marketing funnel—from awareness to engagement to conversion to long-term retention.Manage marketing firms, consultants, and direct media buys—in partnership with other directors on CATF’s Communications and Marketing team.Optimize marketing channels for major fundraising pushes, including Earth Day, Giving Tuesday, end of year giving, and other key inflection points.Serve as an active member of CATF’s Engagement Leaders group, working across the organization to ensure a cohesive brand, marketing, and revenue strategies.Audience Growth & AcquisitionIdentify and refine target audiences based on segmentation, analytics, and insights.Lead paid advertising efforts (including but not limited to Google Ads, Meta, YouTube, LinkedIn) to expand reach and drive efficient audience acquisition.Improve email marketing program to better segment, engage, convert, and upgrade donors.Explore additional marketing channels, including direct text message, direct advertising, physical mailers, and more.Devise programs to test content, messaging, and creative on all CATF marketing platforms to improve conversion performance at each stage of the funnel.Engagement & ConversionBuild and scale effective engagement pathways (email sequences, landing pages, content personalization, automation) that nurture prospects and subscribers.Collaborate with communications leads to translate climate and clean energy content into compelling digital experiences that drive action and influence—leveraging earned media, thought leadership, research, campaigns, and external recognition.Support organizational events strategy and incorporate engagement into broader mass market strategy.Partner with the Development team to align digital acquisition and fundraising with broader Development goals, projects, opportunities and philanthropic pipelines.Stewardship & RetentionDesign and implement strategies to deepen supporter loyalty and lifetime value through meaningful content, segmentation, and ongoing engagement.Oversee analytics and reporting to measure retention, growth, value, and campaign performance across channels.Drive continuous improvement through A/B testing, cohort analysis, and lifecycle marketing optimization.Team & Cross-Functional CollaborationManage and mentor internal marketing staff and external agencies or vendors.Work with Communications and Marketing, Events, Development, and Finance to align audience targeting, messaging, delivery, and accounting/data learning.Serve as a subject-matter expert on the marketing funnel, digital best practices, and new and emerging platforms and tactics—including data analytics, automation, and artificial intelligence.Skills and QualificationsExperience10+ years of progressive experience in digital marketing, acquisition, and/or revenue growth roles—preferably within mission-driven organizations.Proven track record of managing full-funnel marketing strategies that drive measurable audience and revenue outcomes.Experience with paid media, conversion optimization, email lifecycle marketing, text, mailers, CRM systems, audience segmentation, and analytics platforms.SkillsStrategic thinker with strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.Deep understanding of digital marketing channels and best practices for acquisition, engagement, and retention.Excellent communication and collaboration abilities; able to translate strategy into execution with cross-functional teams.Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Passion for CATF’s mission and the ability to communicate climate and energy issues in ways that resonate with diverse and global audiences.Strong judgment and experience on brand cultivation and messaging.PreferredExperience in nonprofit fundraising or digital fundraising strategy.Familiarity with advocacy, public policy, or climate/clean energy issues.Proficiency with CRM and marketing automation tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, Iterable, Braze) and analytics platforms (Google Analytics, BI tools).CompensationCATF offers a competitive salary of $145,000 - $165,000 and comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement contributions, generous paid time off, and flexible work arrangements.
