The Role:We are looking for a Senior Python Engineer who has deep experience working on the Mainframe (z/OS). You will build automation tools, data pipelines, and batch processes that run directly on the mainframe or interact with it from distributed systems. You must be comfortable bridging the gap between modern Python development and legacy Mainframe environments (JCL, DB2, TSO).Who You Are (Must-Haves):The Python Expert: 10+ years of professional Python (3.x) experience building production-level CLI tools, services, and batch utilities.The Mainframe Insider: You have hands-on experience with z/OS Unix System Services (USS) . You are comfortable with TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and Mainframe datasets (PS, PO, GDGs).The DB2 Specialist: You have strong expertise in DB2 for z/OS. You can write and tune complex SQL, design indexes, use utilities like REORG/RUNSTATS, and connect Python to DB2 (using ibm_db/ODBC).The JCL Guru: You can create and maintain JCL (PROCs, symbolics, condition codes). You know how to wire these jobs into enterprise schedulers (Control-M, CA7).The Automation Architect: You can submit and monitor jobs via SDSF, z/OSMF REST APIs, or Zowe CLI. You can parse JES output and automate the entire job lifecycle.What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities):Build Python tools and microservices on z/OS USS.Orchestrate and automate Mainframe batch jobs.Optimize DB2 performance and Python-DB2 connections for high throughput.Build high-volume ETL/ELT pipelines using Python (e.g., Pandas, PyArrow).Implement strong error handling, recovery, and restart logic for batch processes.Implement monitoring, logging, and CI/CD (Jenkins/GitLab).Mentor other engineers on Mainframe + Python best practices.Nice-to-Have (Bonuses):Experience with Pandas, PyArrow, Dask, or Spark.Knowledge of Zowe CLI, z/OSMF, or Ansible for z/OS.Familiarity with IBM MQ, CICS, or Kafka.Experience migrating legacy COBOL/PL/I logic to Python.Relevant certifications (IBM DB2, z/OS, Control-M).Success Metrics:Hitting Batch SLA targets consistently.Reducing DB2 CPU time and improving query performance.Increasing automation coverage and reducing manual job reruns.Tools & Environment:Mainframe: IBM z/OS 2.x, USS, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, RACF.Data: DB2 12/13 for z/OS.Python: 3.x, venv/poetry, ibm_db, requests, pandas.Automation: Zowe CLI, z/OSMF, Control-M/CA7, Jenkins/GitLab.Hello...Hope you all are doing good!We are hiring for the above role...If you would like to explore this!!kindly forward your resume tozara@innovcentric.comHangouts: zara@innovcentric.com
