Job SummaryReporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the Vice President, Security Engineering & Architecture leads the security engineering and architecture organization, responsible for building scalable technical security capabilities across infrastructure, data, product, validation, automation, and AI enablement. This leader is accountable for developing and maintaining a platform-and-assurance security function that efficiently supports company growth, acquisition activity, regulatory requirements, and product modernization—without proportional headcount increases. The VP provides technical authority, prioritization, and cross-functional alignment both within security engineering and with partners across GRC, SOC/Incident Response, enterprise technology, product, and business leadership.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEstablish the operating model, service boundaries, and decision rights for the security engineering and architecture organization.Lead and develop five domain heads, setting priorities, delivery expectations, staffing plans, and platform roadmaps.Own enterprise security architecture governance, including high-impact exceptions and technical risk management for strategic initiatives.Champion reusable security patterns, self-service consulting, automation, and telemetry to streamline advisory and review processes.Foster alignment on build, validation, run, and remediation efforts with peer executives in GRC, SOC/IR, enterprise architecture, infrastructure, product engineering, and legal/privacy.Oversee executive reporting on architecture adoption, automation, exposure reduction, accountability, and technical risk trends.Lead cross-domain AI security initiatives, including enterprise priorities, approved use cases, risk escalation, and investment sequencing.Required Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.12+ years of progressive cybersecurity experience, with deep expertise in security engineering, architecture, cloud, and technical risk management.Experience overseeing multiple technical security domains in regulated financial institutions or similarly complex environments.Proven ability to build scalable security programs through standardization, product-centric strategies, automation, and strong technical governance.Working knowledge in cloud security, product security, data security, AI security, exposure management, security automation, and M&A integration risk.Preferred Education and ExperienceMaster’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or related field.Experience in wealth management, RIAs, or broker-dealer settings.Experience leading enterprise-wide security architecture transformations, cloud migrations, or M&A integrations.Demonstrated ability to scale security organizations using product-led operating models and measurable automation.Required Licenses/CertificationsNo specific license required. Industry certifications preferred, such as CISSP, OSCP, CEH, GWB, GMOB, ITIL, and cloud provider certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP).SkillsStrong executive communication skills with the ability to influence senior business and technology leaders beyond direct authority structures.Deep expertise across security engineering and architecture domains, including infrastructure, data, product, cloud, validation/offensive security, and AI enablement.Demonstrated proficiency in building security functions through product thinking, reusable patterns, automation, and effective telemetry.Cross-functional leadership with the ability to align GRC, SOC/IR, Enterprise Architecture, Infrastructure, Product Engineering, Legal, and Privacy leaders.Excellent technical risk management abilities, especially concerning high-impact exceptions and trade-off decisions.Ability to translate complex technical risks into business-oriented narratives for boards, regulators, and executive stakeholders.Experience operating in M&A-intensive environments with shifting regulatory and technological contexts.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesDirect management of approximately five domain heads responsible for security architecture, cloud/infrastructure security, product and data security, validation/offensive security, and automation/AI security enablement.Responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management, succession planning, and organizational design within security engineering.Provides technical direction and sets delivery expectations for managers and senior contributors across security engineering pillars.Travel RequirementUp to 25% travel to Mariner offices, vendor partners, and industry events.
