Responsibilities

• Conduct user research: identify appropriate research techniques for a project, and then do it. This could be interviewing or observing users, reviewing search analytics, conducting surveys, etc. • Share findings: Analyze data gathered from surveys and interviews, make recommendations based on the findings, and confidently present them to clients. • Create user experience artifacts: this will mostly consist of site maps and wireframes, but could include flows, journey maps, personas, or other artifacts you deem helpful to the project. • Usability test designs and products: recruit participants for, plan, and conduct moderated and unmoderated usability tests, reporting your findings to the team and the client. • Work directly with clients: gather requirements from stakeholders, participate in or conduct hands-on design activities, and facilitate discussions about your UX design artifacts. • Be scrappy: often, you’ll be a UX team of one, and you’ll have to do a lot with small budgets and short timelines. One week you might have a project that is mostly information architecture with some content strategy for a consumer website, and another week you might be designing an enterprise application. Another time, you might be adding a feature to an existing site or application. • Advocate for informed UX design: share what you’re working on with the Sparkbox team by participating in all-hands demos and lunch-and-learns so we all get better at our jobs. Share your knowledge with the broader web community by contributing to Sparkbox’s blog, the Foundry.
