Senior Growth Engineer — San Francisco / Bay Area (Hybrid)
About the job
Firecrawl is the easiest way to turn the web into data AI agents can use — one API call converts any URL into clean, LLM-ready markdown or structured data. We hit 8 figures in ARR in year one and more than doubled it in year two, have 147k+ GitHub stars, and developers, agents, and category-defining AI companies build on us every day. We're a small team where everyone owns a real piece of the product and company end to end.
This is a full-stack engineering role pointed entirely at growth. You'll own the signup, activation, onboarding, and conversion experience, instrument and experiment on the surfaces that drive our PLG motion, and report to the VP of Revenue and Success — owning real conversion outcomes from day one.
Role details
- Salary: $225K–$290K
- Equity: competitive, details shared during process
- Work policy: Hybrid — San Francisco, CA or Bay Area, CA
- Employment type: Full-time
- Hiring: 1–2 candidates
- Visa sponsorship: open to visa transfers (e.g. OPT, H1B transfers); open to discussion for exceptional candidates, though not standard practice
- Tech stack: TypeScript, Node.js, REST APIs, LLM APIs, Datadog, Vercel, React, Next.js, Python, SQL, PostgreSQL, Tailwind CSS, Anthropic Claude API, Mixpanel, Amplitude, PostHog
What you'll do
- Own the growth surfaces end to end: signup, activation, onboarding, and conversion
- Instrument the funnel, run experiments, and ship the changes that move real metrics
- Build full-stack, from the frontend a developer first touches to the backend that powers it
- Treat conversion and activation as your number — own it, measure it, move it
- Work close to the data: form hypotheses, test them, iterate fast on what works
What we're looking for
- A strong full-stack engineer who's worked on growth or PLG products
- Someone who has personally owned a conversion, activation, or funnel metric and moved it
- Someone who thinks like a scientist — hypothesis, experiment, measure, iterate — with real A/B tests they can talk through, including what didn't work
- Bonus: shipped in-product growth surfaces at a dev-tools/SaaS company, or built conversion pages that measurably moved signup
- Bonus: experience with the stack above or building with LLMs in production (prompt engineering, tool use, inference pipelines)
- Experience on developer-facing products — SDKs, playgrounds, docs surfaces, APIs
- Real tenure — a track record of staying with work long enough to see it through
- Bias to ship, measure, and iterate rather than perfect on paper
What we're not looking for
- A growth marketer — this is an engineering role that writes production code
- A backend engineer with no interest in the product surface or the metrics
- Someone who's only shipped features without owning an outcome
- A pattern of short stints
Requirements (dealbreakers)
- Full-stack ownership of features shipping end-to-end PLG work (onboarding, activation, upgrade prompts) that measurably moved a metric
- Proficiency with React, TypeScript, Next.js, and Node.js
- A/B testing and experimentation frameworks experience
Baseline requirements
- 5–12 years as a full-stack engineer with hands-on growth work as an IC at an early- or growth-stage startup
- Experience running growth experiments/A-B tests and analyzing funnels (event tracking, SQL/product analytics) to find growth levers
- AI-native workflow: fluent using AI coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code) to ship faster
- A trusted IC who shapes the growth roadmap and can partner with leadership to ship product
Nice to have
- Built internal tooling that growth/product teams adopted
Traits to avoid
- Pure frontend-only or backend-only specialists
- Growth marketers, SEO/content, lifecycle/CRM, or GTM ops profiles
- Pure research or platform engineers without product instincts
- Treating AI tools as a novelty rather than daily infrastructure
A note on pace
This team operates at a high level of urgency — if you've felt "scaling chaos" at a company growing fast from early revenue to real scale, you'll feel at home. If that doesn't excite you, this role isn't for you.
