The role focuses on strong technical skills and a dedication to becoming an MTA for clients, improving departmental processes, participating in training and development, and supporting firm growth through service initiatives.The tax staff will interact with various service departments and the administration team, with direct client interaction throughout the year and the opportunity to quickly advance to a Client Service Manager (CSM) role.As a CSM, you will develop and implement tax services for clients and identify additional ways to assist with their needs.Essential Functions of The PositionQualitiesTime ManagementExceptional Organization SkillsStrong Communication skillsResponsiveness to time-sensitive itemsAttention to DetailFocus on clientAbility to work independentlyTeam CollaborationStrong Leadership skillsTransparencyStrong Work EthicBeing professional and respectful to othersPositive AttitudeTechnical SkillsPrepare more complex entity-level and individual tax returns, including multi-state, consolidated, foreign bank reporting, etc.Review less complex tax returns prepared by staff and outsourced providers.Apply a fundamental understanding of tax law and provide client recommendations for possible tax-saving opportunities.Perform fundamental tax research.Address government agency tax notifications.Prepare Trust Tax returns.Client ServiceInteract with clients and act as liaison for various tax projects, including gathering appropriate information and resolving tax-related problems and notices.Review and identify tax planning opportunities.Provide continuous tax return process during the year by interacting with clients and staying current on changes to clients’ tax situations.Provide superior service such that clients provide referrals to friends and colleagues.Training and PersonnelParticipate in recruiting tax department staff and interns.Provide technical on-the-job (OTJ) training to tax preparers and outsource providers.Provide informal mentoring to staff members.Participate in department activities as a team player on behalf of the department and the firm.Demonstrate the ability to interact with and work as a team member.Participate in a minimum of 40 hours of CPE per year and share with department and firm personnel.Continue developing technical, personal, and interpersonal skills and participate in the MTA learning program.DepartmentFollow department policies and procedures.Identify and look for process improvement ideas.Participate in weekly department meetings.Assist as liaison with outsourced tax preparers.Preferred AttributesMinimum of 2–4 years’ experience preparing tax returns in a CPA firm.Active CPA preferred.Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.Strong project management and time management skills.Financial and accounting experience; willingness and ability to work with autonomy; creativity; high service orientation.Customer service focus.Ability to get along well with diverse personalities; tactful, mature, and flexible.Ability to operate independently and self-manage projects.Result- and profit-oriented, with ability to balance other business considerations.Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.High energy level; comfortable performing multifaceted projects alongside everyday activities.Superior numeric skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to communicate and actively support the values of the firm.
