This position oversees all aspects of accounting operations, including monthly close processes, financial reporting, and compliance with GAAP standards. The Accounting Manager works closely with Senior Accountants and Staff Accountants to maintain internal controls, streamline processes, and deliver actionable financial insights.Essential FunctionsFinancial ReportingPrepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements and reports for multiple nonprofit clients.Conduct variance analyses comparing actual figures to budget, forecast, and prior periods.Financial OversightManage client accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.Implement and monitor internal controls for revenue, expenses, and program budgets.Collaboration and AnalysisCollaborate with client executives to communicate financial status and provide insights.Gain a deep understanding of client operations to offer tailored financial guidance and recommendations.Close ProcessOversee and finalize monthly close transactions, including account reconciliations and ledger reviews.Ensure all workpapers tie accurately to financial statements.Audit and BudgetingCoordinate with external auditors for year-end reviews and tax filings.Assist clients in budgeting processes and recommend corrective actions to meet financial objectives.Policy and Process ImprovementDevelop and maintain financial policies and procedures for client organizations.Continuously review and improve accounting processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.Team Leadership and DevelopmentSupervise and mentor Senior and Staff Accountants, providing guidance and support in achieving performance goals.Lead regular team meetings to discuss process updates and address challenges.Ad-Hoc Tasks and ReportingCreate custom reports and financial analyses to meet specific client needs.Assist with resolving complex issues related to general ledger coding, reconciliation, and merchant services.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or MBA preferred).Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including month-end close processes.Strong proficiency with accounting systems, including NetSuite, and advanced knowledge of Excel.Experience with nonprofit or association accounting is highly desirable.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Proven ability to implement process improvements and ensure compliance with policies.Travel RequirementsOccasional travel may be necessary for this position, up to 2% of the time. Modes of transportation may include air travel, car, or rail.
