Requirements and responsibilities

Cognistack client is looking for a Software Engineer for a full-time, permanent role in San Francisco, CA. Job Title: Software Engineer (full-time, permanent role). On-site work policy: In-person San Francisco / Work in-person 5 days/week in San Francisco. Visa sponsorship available: Visa sponsorship available case-by-case basis (H1B Transfer available). Hiring Count: Looking to hire 10 candidates. Position Type: Full-time, permanent. Tech stack: TypeScript, PostgreSQL, GCP, OpenAI, NextJS. * 5-8 years of experience as an engineer building products in a startup environment. * Flexible in terms of specific tech stack proficiency; prioritizes problem-solving abilities, emotional intelligence (EQ), and a general aptitude for learning. * Experience at reputable early-stage startups (Seed - Series B) or later-stage companies with excellent engineering or product reputations. About this role: * We are looking to hire 3 archetypes of engineers: Mid-level founder type (4-6 YOE) or senior engineer (5-8 YOE). * We currently have 10 engineers total: 7 engineers in the junior to mid-level bucket and 3 in the senior bucket. * We are looking to double those numbers by the end of the year. * We’re focusing on building a solid engineering and product foundation to scale our business and team. * We are continuing to build out our AI-related features to improve the recruiting marketplace. * We are looking for exceptional full-stack, product-minded engineers across three archetypes. * We are looking for full-stack, product-minded builders who can take a well-defined problem and independently ship clean, elegant, high-quality products quickly. Example Archetypes: Archetype 1: Product-Focused Full-Stack Builder (4–6 YOE). * Ships end-to-end features quickly across backend, frontend, and UX. * Uses user impact to guide decisions; doesn’t rely heavily on PM/design. * High-agency, self-unblocking, fast learner. * Mid-career, hungry, and with a clearly promising upward career trajectory. * Experience showing speed and polish. Archetype 2: Senior/Staff Engineer (5–8 YOE). * Has owned complex features or systems and made non-trivial design choices. * Has led the design and implementation of multi-engineer projects. * Intuitively comes up with correct solutions and system designs that balance competing engineering, product, and business priorities. * Everything they touch gets better. * Strong collaborator who is a multiplier on their teams while staying hands-on. Archetype 3: AI/LLM Product Engineer. * Owned and shipped LLM-powered features end-to-end. * A full-stack engineer who views AI/LLMs as a tool to build features and deliver business value. * Experience at a successful AI-first company is a bonus.
