About the RoleWe are seeking a hands-on, strategic Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations for our growing marketing firm. This role combines day-to-day accounting ownership with high-level financial leadership and close partnership with the CEO and executive team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, project-based professional services environment.This is a remote position, with occasional in-person meetings with the CEO and/or Leadership team. Candidates must be based in Massachusetts, Rhode Island or Florida.Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial OperationsOwn and manage all accounting functions, including A/P, A/R, credit card management, revenue recognition, and general ledgerLead the monthly close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reportingPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external financial packagesEnforce internal controls and ensure compliance with financial policies and proceduresServe as Admin/Super User for the firm’s ERP systemBudgeting, Forecasting & Cash ManagementPrepare the annual budget and ongoing monthly forecastsManage cash flow and maintain strong banking relationshipsSupport financial planning and analysis to guide business decisionsTax & CompliancePrepare all documentation required for annual tax returns and coordinate with external tax advisorsManage all insurance contracts, including annual Workers’ Compensation auditsContracts & Risk ManagementReview, negotiate, and/or draft vendor agreementsReview and sign client contracts, ensuring financial and risk considerations are addressedLeadership & Strategic PartnershipServe as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and leadership teamAct as a key member of the leadership team, contributing to overall company strategySupport teams across the organization with ad hoc financial analysis and requestsCross-Functional CollaborationWork closely with Project Management and Client Services teams to manage the financial aspects of client and vendor relationshipsEnsure accurate project costing, billing, and profitability trackingQualifications & RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)CPA is a plus10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior experience as an Accounting Manager or ControllerExcel Super userExperience with systems implementationStrong understanding of revenue recognition and project-based accounting (professional services or agency experience preferred)Proven ability to operate in a hands-on role while also providing strategic financial leadershipExcellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across departmentsWork LocationRemote roleOccasional in-person meetings with leadership team (maximum twice per month)Must be a local employee based in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut or Florida
