As Director of Engineering, you will lead the operational excellence of Tithely's Engineering organization, ensuring teams can consistently deliver high-quality technology that empowers churches to fulfill their mission. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will oversee the systems, processes, standards, and tooling that support effective product development, while partnering closely with Product and Design to improve delivery, develop talent, drive AI adoption, and create an environment where teams can do their best work in service of the local church.Primary Responsibilities of the RoleEngineering Operations & DeliveryOwn and continuously improve the software development lifecycle from planning through release and post-launch operationsDrive predictable, high-quality delivery through engineering standards, delivery processes, and operational excellenceMonitor and improve engineering effectiveness metrics, including DORA and delivery performance indicatorsPartner with Product and Design leaders to align planning, prioritization, and execution across teamProcess, Quality & StandardsEstablish and maintain engineering operating standards, working agreements, and delivery best practicesEnsure code quality, documentation, and development processes support long-term scalability and reliabilityPartner with engineering leadership to implement career frameworks, performance standards, and organizational consistencyIdentify opportunities to simplify workflows and improve team efficiencyAI Enablement & InnovationLead the rollout, adoption, and governance of AI-powered engineering tools and workflowsEstablish best practices, training programs, and standards for AI-assisted software developmentMeasure AI adoption, productivity impact, and operational outcomes across engineering teamsPartner with Product leadership to operationalize AI and LLM-powered capabilities within Tithely productsTeam LeadershipLead, coach, and develop engineering managers and technical leadersFoster a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvementSupport performance management, career development, and leadership growth across the organizationHelp create an environment where teams can do their best work and grow professionallyOperational Strategy & GovernanceManage engineering tooling, vendor relationships, and department budgetsEvaluate and implement platforms that improve engineering productivity, quality, and visibilityPartner with Security, QA, Reliability Engineering, and executive leadership on cross-functional initiativesCommunicate engineering performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and stakeholdersQualificationsA Successful Candidate Will:Drive Results: Creates predictable delivery outcomes by building scalable systems, processes, and accountability across engineering organizations.Develop Talent: Coaches leaders and teams to perform at a high level while fostering engagement, ownership, and continuous growth.Plans and Aligns: Translates strategic objectives into clear priorities, operating rhythms, and execution plans that keep teams focused and effective.Manages Complexity: Navigates competing priorities, technical challenges, and organizational change while making thoughtful, data-informed decisions.Communicates Effectively: Builds strong partnerships across Engineering, Product, Design, and executive leadership, translating technical concepts into business impact.Required Technical Qualifications:8-12 years of progressive software engineering experience, including 4+ years in engineering leadershipDemonstrated experience leading engineering operations, software delivery, and development lifecycle improvements at scaleExperience managing engineering managers, technical leads, or high-performing engineering teamsStrong understanding of cloud-native software environments, modern development practices, and engineering delivery metricsExperience establishing engineering standards, operating processes, and performance frameworksKnowledge of security, compliance, and risk management considerations within SaaS environmentsExperience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and technology investmentsStrong cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management skillsPreferred Technical Qualifications:Experience in fintech, payments, or high-volume SaaS environmentsExperience implementing AI coding tools, agentic workflows, and engineering productivity initiativesFamiliarity with engineering effectiveness platforms and DORA-based measurement frameworksExperience leading cloud migration, platform modernization, or large-scale transformation initiativesExperience developing engineering career frameworks and leveling programsFamiliarity with AWS-based environments and modern software architecturesPassion for Tithely's mission of empowering churches through technologyOffice Requirements:We are a fully distributed team (100% remote) with travel sometimes required 1-2 times per year.A stable work environment with designated workspace and access to high-speed internet.US-based and legally able to work full time in the US.
