Responsibilities

Freejam is the developer of the online multiplayer game Robocraft and is now working on its sequel, Robocraft 2. The company uses cutting-edge technologies, including Unity DOTS and Havok Physics. Freejam is fully independent, deciding on game features, release platforms, promotion and marketing strategies, business models, and more. Despite being a small company, Freejam offers good benefits, including flexible working hours and an ambitious, ego-free, and relaxing environment. Freejam is looking for a Tech Artist to join their team in Portsmouth, UK. The successful candidate will be involved in the creation and integration of special effects to accompany game mechanics such as vehicle weaponry, damage, and destruction. The role also involves technical problem solving, shader development, post-process effects, framerate-optimisation, and art pipeline efficiency and tool development. Responsibilities: - Creating Special Effects and integrating them in-game to provide visual user feedback for features like damage and destruction, vehicle weaponry, explosions, and many other exciting features we plan to add to Techblox. - Researching and developing technical solutions for game-play features as we add more and more modular components to the game. - Development and optimization of shaders using shader graph editors and\or scripting. - Development, balancing, and optimization of lighting, shadows, reflections, and post-process effects. - Profiling and identifying bottlenecks in art content performance and quality for multiple platforms from min-spec to high-end. - Rigging and animating mechanical hard surface models (e.g. the moving parts of a car engine). - Working closely with the other artists in the team to assist them technically. - Developing tools to speed up and improve art pipelines and processes. - Researching and staying up to date with the latest developments in technology relating to Unity HDRP and any other external tools and technology that can contribute to Techblox becoming a standout and unique game product.
