About Uptech
We invented rental car tolling. Our founders built the platform that processes 300M+ transactions a year at what is now Verra Mobility, the dominant player in the space. Uptech is their second company in this industry, built from scratch to replace what they built 20 years ago.
We connect directly with US toll authorities, match every toll and citation to the right vehicle and driver, and handle the billing that follows for rental car companies, trucking companies, and the fleets that run them. At the core, we're a data company solving a mobility problem. Every number has to be accurate, auditable, and traceable, or none of this works.
Self-funded by choice. Signed enterprise customers, a live fleet running on our platform today, and a hyper-growth stage where priorities move when a customer or a toll authority moves them, sometimes in the same week.

AI Is How We Work
AI is part of how every team at Uptech works. For this role, that means using AI tools to speed up the routine: matching receipts to expenses, checking data, drafting reports, summarizing documents. AI-enhanced, not AI-dependent: you use it to move faster, but you know when its output is wrong, and you check every number.
The Role
You'll work with our COO and take finance work off the leadership team's plate, so they can focus on the business. Most of your time is finance support; the rest is operations. The COO and Operations are your main stakeholders. This role will change as the company does: the work you do in month three may look nothing like month one.
What You Will Do
You'll be the person who keeps Uptech running behind the scenes: our books clean, every contractor and vendor paid correctly, on time and in compliance, and the day-to-day details handled. Here's what that looks like:
• Manage Bill.com: enter and code bills, route them for approval, schedule payments, and make sure contractors, consultants, and vendors are paid on time.
• Collect receipts and process expense reports and reimbursements.
• Keep payee records, payment details, and onboarding forms complete and up to date.
• Help with monthly reconciliations of bank and card accounts.
• Send the COO simple reports on spending and open payments, and gather the documents our outside accountants need.
• Support operations: track transponder orders and shipments, keep toll agency account paperwork organized, and check and clean data in spreadsheets and internal tools.
• Own contractor and vendor compliance as we grow. We're a US company paying people in seven countries and expanding across Latin America.
• Take on whatever small tasks help the team move faster.
What We Are Looking For
We're looking for someone early in their career but sharp, who takes pride in numbers that tie out, follows every task through to done, and wants real responsibility at a founder-led company.
If that sounds like you, here's what we're looking for:
• Accuracy: It's not a preference here, it's the job. When we say the numbers must match, we mean it.
• Hands-on finance experience: About 1 to 3 years in accounting, bookkeeping, or finance operations. You learn the rest fast.
• The right tools: Comfortable in Bill.com, QuickBooks, or similar tools, and in • Google Sheets or Excel. Bill.com experience is preferred.
• Ownership: You own a task and follow up until it is done.
• AI with a check: You use AI tools to move faster and check every number.
• Virtual-Ready and Hybrid-Ready: You're in or near San José, comfortable working virtually with a team in different time zones, and equally comfortable sharing an office in San José when we ask. The role starts fully virtual.
• Comfortable with change: You're fine with priorities that change when a customer does.
• Professional, clear English: You write and speak professional English that's easy to follow, on live calls and in writing, with a team across time zones and with our outside accountants. Our team, our documents, and our payments to contractors and vendors all run in English.
Nice to Have
• Experience paying contractors or vendors in other countries.
• Familiarity with tolling, fleets, or transportation.
• Tools, scripts, or AI workflows you built yourself to make your own work faster.
Location
Remote from San José, Costa Rica to start. We may open an office in Costa Rica in the future, and we're looking for people who would enjoy working in person/hybrid with the team if we do.
What To Expect Early On
The pace is high. You will not make a visible impact in your first two weeks, and we do not expect you to. That time is for learning the business. After that, you will be trusted with real work quickly. Much of the early work is hands-on and detail-heavy, such as bills, receipts and reconciliations, and we're looking for someone who takes real satisfaction in getting it exactly right.
