Our client, a leading Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) organization owned by 20 nonprofit health plans and serving more than 33 million members, is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to join its Prior Authorization team. This is a 100% remote opportunity for California residents with a stable Monday–Sunday coverage schedule, paid training, and the potential for contract extension. Position: Certified Pharmacy Technician Location: Remote (California Residents Only) Duration: 6-Month Contract (Potential Extension) Start Date: September 14, 2026 Pay Rate: $22.00/hour W2 Schedule Coverage required 5 days per week (Monday–Sunday) Shift start times vary between 7:00 AM and 12:30 PM Pacific 6-week paid training | Monday–Friday | 8:30 AM–5:00 PM PT Camera required during training Position Overview The Certified Pharmacy Technician will support pharmacy prior authorization operations by reviewing medication requests, evaluating clinical criteria, documenting authorization outcomes, and communicating determinations to physicians, providers, pharmacists, and internal teams. This role is ideal for pharmacy technicians with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and experience working in retail, specialty pharmacy, or healthcare environments. Key Responsibilities Review pharmacy prior authorization requests using established clinical criteria. Determine medication appropriateness based on client guidelines. Communicate authorization decisions to physicians, provider offices, pharmacists, and medical management staff. Research, resolve, and document prior authorization outcomes within pharmacy systems. Escalate requests requiring clinical review or denial to Pharmacists. Resolve inquiries and grievances from clients, providers, and prescribers within required service levels. Manage fax queue assignments, including: Coverage determinations Pending authorization queues Oral notifications Failed fax follow-up Monitor multiple work queues and adjust priorities based on business needs. Perform additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Active California State Pharmacy Technician License. Must currently reside in California. 0–2 years of pharmacy experience. Minimum 6 months of retail or dispensing pharmacy experience (or equivalent internal training). Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Preferred Experience Experience in one or more of the following: Prior Authorization Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) Specialty Pharmacy Retail Pharmacy Health Plan or Managed Care Pharmacy Reimbursement Medical Terminology Formulary Management Specialty Injectable Medications Pharmacy Systems Microsoft Office Suite Reimbursement Coding (J Codes, Q Codes, ICD-9, CMS-1500) Candidates should possess strong communication, documentation, problem-solving, and organizational skills while working within established clinical criteria and service level expectations.
