CEO & Founder @ Smart Mountain | Commercializing Blue Carbon Projects
Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago
With over two decades of experience in policy and business development, Navin is actively de-risking innovation with a scalable impact from the Caribbean & Latin America (LATAM) region. He is also the lead partner and co-founder of Smart Mountain, a Regenerative Finance (ReFI)/Climate Finance innovation project establishing proof of concept to make responsible natural asset restoration a commercial, globally scalable endeavour. Smart Mountain is working on creating the world's first AI and blockchain-integrated mangrove management system to manage the growth of such climate clusters in developing countries and bridge the UN SDG financing gap. Smart Mountain has received founder-market fit validation with recognition and support from the European Institute of Technology, US AID, UNIDO (via PFAN and REEEP) and HackerNoon. On the Venture Capital front, he is a consultant with Domäne Capital, building a sector-agnostic, five-year fund, deploying capital to high-impact, high-growth ventures in LATAM, focusing on ESG and UN SDGs.
He has dedicated his entrepreneurial career to impact ventures, employing his venture-building and product management skills to reduce innovation costs and de-risk their return on investment. Previously, he has enjoyed a rewarding 15-year plus interdisciplinary policy development career in developing countries, cutting across security and geopolitics, energy policy and climate change, and economic and business development.
Navin serves as a startup mentor with Carbon 13, a climate change venture builder based in Cambridge, UK, and advised and coached over 100 founders to validate their high-impact startups toward a pre-money valuation in under three months. He has also been a mentor and judge for graduate students at London Business School's Clean Tech Challenge. As a consultant, he utilises lean, agile, and innovation frameworks to give early-stage investment leverage and impact-led change, including in developing countries.
He has a BA in International Relations from Mount Allison University and three Master's degrees in Peace, Security, Development and International Conflict Transformation (MA) from the University of Innsbruck, Energy Studies with a specialization in Energy Geopolitics (MSc) from the CEPMLP, University of Dundee, and Entrepreneurship (MSt) from the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. He has certifications from MIT, Oxford University and Duke University in AI, Blockchain Technology, and Impact Measurement and Management.
