Assessment of the Seismic Response of Reinforced Concrete Moment Frames as Function of the Intensity Measure
    May 2019
In the assessment of the seismic performance of a building, the Intensity measure (IM) is the parameter that links the different levels of the acceleration at ground level with the structural response demands, such as the inter-story drift ratio and the floor acceleration. Some of the traditional IMs are the peak ground acceleration (PGA) and the spectral acceleration at the fundamental period (SaT1), these ones link together the intensity of a seismic event with the possible damages in the components of a building. However, new research shows that some IM introduce bias in the predicted seismic demands, finding improvements when using the geometric mean of the acceleration spectra (Saavg), this one is expressed in terms of two parameters “
