Michael L Trent

Michael Trent is passionate about writing, writing instruction, and the arts. He has worked in the classroom for 3.5 years as a middle school teacher. Online, he has worked as a writing tutor for 7 years. Michael helped found the Roxbury Film Festival which began as the Dudley Film Festival in 1999 and is now known as the Roxbury International Film Festival. He was motivated to begin the film festival because he felt that there were few opportunities for filmmakers of color and venues to present their films in and outside the Hollywood system, as a student in BU’s screenwriting program. Later, Michael studied arts administration at Savannah College of Arts Design in Atlanta. He has held two writing fellowships at the Jack Kerouac House and at the Blue Mountain Center. These fellowships helped him to write and develop a poetry collection dedicated to the tragedies of lynching. Michael is interested in projects and positions in the arts, writing, and education fields. Achievements• Successfully written over 1200 reviews for essays, dissertations, resumes, cover letters, narratives, nursing literature reviews, and marketing reports for a Pearson company.• Helped students achieve 4 and over for state writing assessment. • Founded film festival. Collaborated with other organizations to build the film festival from a one-day event to multiple day event.
