Email Migration with University Servant Leaders

"Our email was full of junk mail. Sometimes it took each of us more than an hour to clean out our inbox. Now, we can just get to work!” This statement was repeated by several PEARLS for Teen Girls staff members after a recent upgrade to their email system was done. While an email upgrade to Office 365 isn’t anything new, what was different about this work is how it got done. “It really feels good to use my skills to make a difference”. Carl Saffron, a recent graduate of MSOE decided to use his skills for good as part of MSOE’s Servant Leadership Business Center, a program that combines the skills of MSOE students with the principles of Servant Leadership. Design of Creative Multi-Use Space Business Model

I was tasked with designing a business model for a multi-use creative space that would integrate with a school, a nonprofit, businesses and residents all on the same property. We used a combination of Lean Startup and Human Centered Design to flush out the expectations and needs of the community and potential users of the space. The result was a comprehensive outline for what could be a self-sustaining creative space which had outlined participants and revenue projections, along with an organizational structure and operational plan.

HackMKE: Annual Code for America Event

Co-organizer of the Milwaukee-based event which is part of Code for America's national series of events, National Days of Civic Hacking. This is a civic technology and civic engagement event designed at bringing technical and non-technical people together to solve civic problems. TEDx Harambee

Only 100 people were allowed to attend, but hundreds viewed online. Operated the audiovisual controls and helped handle events on the day. Big thanks to Stamm Media for donating equipment that was used for the day and to MSOE Servant Leadership for providing the student talent that helped build the stage and set up the event space.

Community Technology Center

This was an implementation of a technology resource room. We helped secure the funding with a technology proposal, planned out the space, suggested programing and implemented the technology resources including computers, printers and digital cameras. The center was designed to not only be a resource for learning, but also for creativity and community building.

HACK MKE 2015

Red Arrow partnered with the Milwaukee Data Initiative and 88.9 Radio Milwaukee to support HackMKE, and it was a blast! HackMKE is part of Code for America’s National Day of Civic Hacking and takes place simultaneously in cities around the country. The event brought together citizens, software developers, and entrepreneurs to collaboratively create, build, and invent new solutions using publicly-released data, code and technology, to improve our communities through a ground-up approach. The event was held June 6th at 88.9 Radio Milwaukee, and Red Arrow assisted in its organization and volunteered as group leaders and technical experts to approximately 50 civic-minded volunteers from the local community. Wellness Center Building Move

We were contracted to assist a wellness center move from an existing space into a brand new building. During the process, we were able to resolve several unforeseen difficulties, identify cost savings on cabling and computer systems and connect them with helpful resources. Overall, the result was an on-time and under-budget project.

International Education Platform for Medical Education

I was responsible for project management, DevOps, and video production management for creating an online medical education platform and 40 credit-hour course meant for international launch. This project required more than 200 hours of video production and editing time, along with an equal amount of development time. The platform was built with a Flash front-end (at the time) and the back-end used an open source content management tools (ILIAS). This project was fast-paced, conceived in early 2008 and launched in summer 2008 at the Toronto International Wound Care conference. Year 1 revenues from this effort exceeded $200,000.

Mobile Health Care EMR

This was a mobile health care EMR designed to be used by providers in the field. The software was built to streamline the process of diagnosing, treating, billing and documenting health care. This product was built to serve close to 20 providers in 5 states.

Mobile Care Electronic Medical Records System

Jan 2007 - Dec 2008 (2 years)

I was responsible for product management, DevOps and overall design of a prototype mobile electronic records management system. This system was meant to help mobile care providers enter and store data securely, and use visual aids and suggestions to give providers more information to make informed, clinical decisions. This product was also going to streamline the billing process. The project also included utilization of early-stage mobile hardware and technology that would allow for entering case data anywhere, a precursor to the "mobile-first" method of development common today. This project was completed and presented to our client in 2008.

Retrospective Electronic Case Study

Jan 2007 - Sep 2007 (9 months)

A first of its kind for hyberbaric medicine, this was an online, retrospective case study built for the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine. In order to evaluate the efficacy of HBOT in treating osteoradionecrosis, more than 1,000 patients were entered. This site was reviewed and approved by the Aurora Health Care IRB.

Research Trial Investigator for Advanced Clinical Imaging

I was hired to oversee technical operation during a clinical trial of advanced imaging technology. This technology was used as multi-spectral imaging on satellites, and was tested for use in diagnosing physiological issues, both superficial and subcutaneous. The study lasted 6 months, during which time I was entrusted with technical operation and security of the multi-spectral imaging apparatus.

IRB Approved Retrospective Study Software Tool

Jan 2006 - Dec 2007 (2 years)

Working with Aurora Healthcare's Investigative Review Board, I was trained as an investigator and hired to build a web tool that would capture, manage and allow reporting on the largest retrospective study of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in history. This was done with one of the leading researchers and clinicians in the field, the late Eric P. Kindwall, MD. This study cataloged more than 30,000 case records and provided a web interface for secure data entry. I was responsible for overall design, information security and DevOps.
