Matt Benson

Matt Benson, Esq. is a seasoned attorney whose diverse experiences shape the craft and care he brings to each client’s case. A proud alumnus of local Point Loma Nazarene University, Matt’s early leadership and commitment to excellence were evident when he was named captain of his college team in both Junior and Senior seasons and garnered All-American recognition. After graduating with honors, his athletic journey then took him to Germany, where he played professional basketball with BG Lietershofen Stadtbergen located just outside of Augsburg. Pursuing his passion for law, Matt attended UCLA School of Law from 2009-2012, distinguishing himself with top grades. His legal journey took a deeply personal turn inspired by family sacrifice. In 2011 during his second year of law school, Matt’s cousin tragically shot down during the special operations mission Extortion 17. SOC (SEAL) Darrik Benson’s ultimate sacrifice to his country was what inspired Matt to join the US Navy JAG Corps after his graduation. For the next decade, Matt honed a wide range of legal skills by representing military service members, from young enlisted personnel to top-ranking officials, across various commands including Naval Special Warfare Command, Navy Recruiting Command, Naval Special Warfare Center, Naval Station Jacksonville, and Naval Base Ventura County. While serving in the military, Matt pursued his passion in film by earning an MFA in Film and Theater Studies from San Diego State University. He wrote, directed and produced the SDSU short film festival grand prize winner The Dinner Party, and his screenplay Gus finished as a quarterfinalist for the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Nicholl Fellowship. He continues to serve in the U.S. Navy reserves as a Commander (select), and enjoys consuming the latest streaming shows. During his career transition to the civilian sector, Matt explored a wide range of possible civilian career paths, in and out of the legal field. Personal injury and consumer law representation was the perfect fit. Driven by a profound commitment to championing the underdog, Matt’s approach to law is not just about winning cases; it’s about fighting for justice and making a real difference in people’s lives.
