Seamless Pneumatic Shifting with Ignition Kill

Dec 2010 - May 2011 (6 months)

Developed an indigenous pneumatic shifter for the RZ-X (2010) prototype of Ashwa Racing. The system was integrated into the Engine Control Unit (ECU) of the vehicle.

Ignition cut is employed to protect the transmission while enabling faster gear shifts without disengaging the clutch.

Another salient feature is that the pneumatic system recharges on-board the vehicle through the use of an compressor and does not require any refilling.

This design was further developed and the packaging is now much smaller with the whole system weighing lesser than 350g.

Power Distribution Board (PDB)

Jan 2010 - Jan 2011 (1 year 1 month)

Started with an intent to replace bulky relays. We had 3 design iterations, one with sugar cube relays, Dual Inline Package(DIP) FETs and then D2PAK FETs. The resulting design is used to manage power on-board the Ashwa Racing's vehicle and allows a quick swap incase of a failure.

The boards were tested on 3 of Ashwa Racing's vehicles viz. RZ-X, RZ-XI & RZ-XII i.e. the 2010, 2011 and 2012 models that participated at Formula Student Italy.
