I became a news anchor by accident. I was working late to finish the 'year in review' for a national TV network when my boss urged me to go on camera and cover live the assault on the Japanese embassy in Peru. I was a news writer just off school but the following week I was hosting the morning news and shortly after, the prime time. I graduated as a reporter while covering the first few years of mayhem in Hugo Chavez's Venezuela, for CNN. It was fascinating… and exhausting. After 4 years of carrying a bulletproof vest, gas mask, and all my filming equipment in the trunk of my car, I was poached by UNHCR to become their press officer to raise awareness about the plight of Colombian refugees. I delivered, tripling their news coverage just in the first year. I kissed my fruitful, exhilarating career in Venezuela good-bye and said hello to a fresh start in the U.S. I opened a more flexible career chapter as a freelance writer, translator and editor for several organizations including PETA and IDG Connect, to prioritize family and maternity. Those years taught me humility, customer satisfaction and time management. My clients, taught me how to be more responsible with animals and the environment, and I discovered a new interest in technology and its social impact. But those years also made me realize that, regardless the job, I'm a journalist at heart. I arrived in Dublin two years ago. I lent my writing skills to Front Line Defenders to raise awareness on human rights activists around the world and then I joined the Raygun's marketing team at Facebook to support SMBs in EMEA through COVID-19. I'm now ready for my next post in Ireland and can't wait to discover the challenges it will entrust me with!
