The Region Beta Paradox:
If you were to go a mile or less, you would walk it.
If you were to go more than a mile you would drive it.
Worse situations can be better situations. If you only act after a certain threshold of "badness", you can end up stuck in Region Beta.
Instead of being stuck in a chasm of Comfortable Complacency (comfortably numb), worse situations would galvanize you into doing something about the current status and make it better.
