About me? I am a team player. I say it because I mean it. Some fundamentals of my personality:
1. I don't know everything, and I never will! But I have a team that I can rely on, and they can rely on me.
2. Errors will happen, and my team should feel comfortable sharing them, we will use them to grow not to blame. Let's enable trust!
3. Delegating responsibilities means sharing success/failures, I do not micromanage, I empower people.
4. A leader inspires, provides a clear vision/direction, and a sense of contribution. We are a team, we are on this journey together.
If you share my view with these terms, I would suggest you take them into action. They are not a task that you can cross out of your to-do list, they are habits that will empower you and your team to really step up a natch.
I believe that product management is changing the world, bringing value, and making the catchy line "customer-centric" really happen. How can you be customer-centric if you do not know your customer? And how do you connect your (and your teams') work with what our customers want/need?
There are these questions that always trigger thoughts in my head: How do I truly understand a user? How deep do I know him/her? Can I predict what is he/she missing? These questions were no so popular 10 years ago. We are in such an early stage of this career, where the term "product manager" has proven its impact on delivering value in very efficient ways.
As you read these lines, there is a product manager somewhere in the world asking him/herself the same questions. The cool thing about it is that we, as a community, contribute to making our jobs better, more efficient, and of course more fun!
