    Merlin Search Technologies
    Mar 2019 - Current (7 years 8 months)
I founded Merlin to build the discovery and investigation platform I wished I'd had during my 20 years as a trial lawyer.

Our flagship platform, ๐˜ˆ๐˜ญ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜บ, uses generative AI to transform how legal teams work with large document collections. Instead of running complex keyword searches and wading through thousands of hit reports, lawyers ask questions in plain language and get comprehensive, sourced answers in seconds. Alchemy creates timelines, investigation reports, witness kits, and strategic analyses โ€” work that used to take days or weeks.

Through our AI Services division, we're solving additional challenges that have burdened legal teams for decades:

  • Catalyst Repository Systems
    CEO and Founder
    Catalyst Repository Systems
    Jan 2000 - Jan 2019 (19 years 1 month)
I founded Catalyst out of my law practice to build one of the first cloud-based ediscovery platforms. We were pioneers in cloud computing and multi-language ediscovery, and we developed the first Continuous Active Learning (CAL) algorithm for the ediscovery community โ€” what I named TAR 2.0. Over 19 years, we grew the company to approximately 180 people with five data centers and operations spanning the U.S., Asia, and India. The company was acquired by OpenText in January 2019.

We were pioneers in cloud computing and multi-language ediscovery, and we developed the first Continuous Active Learning (CAL) algorithm for the ediscovery community โ€” what I named TAR 2.0. I wrote TAR for Smart People to help the legal industry understand why CAL was a fundamental improvement over first-generation technology-assisted review.

In 1986, I founded Trial Partner, one of the first alternative business units within a major law firm. Trial Partner provided jury consulting, litigation graphics and animations, a professional video studio, and courtrooms for mock trials โ€” giving the firm's litigation teams sophisticated trial support capabilities that were widely recognized as pioneering in the legal industry. We also built one of the first cloud-based litigation search platforms, pioneering the use of Adobe Acrobat fo

Technology Assisted Review: Moving Beyond the First Generation of E-Discovery Review
      Catalyst Apr
Once controversial, technology assisted review (TAR), also known as predictive coding or computer assisted review, has gained judicial acceptance and is increasingly used for large-scale production reviews. Less recognized, however, is that TAR has a range of uses beyond simple review that can help in mastering large document sets, from information governance to early case assessment and preparing for depositions and trial.

Join us for a luncheon seminar and panel discussion presented by Catalyst Repository Systems, in partnership with Women in eDiscovery and Esquire Deposition Solutions. In-house counsel from IBM, AIG and JPMorgan Chase will share their thoughts about how TAR can be best used in e-discovery and discuss how busi
