Development (in C/C++ and Rust) of a distributed tuning system that uses stochastic optimization to enhance the performance of applications hardened with Intel SGX in an automatic fashion. More precisely, the tuner leverages a self-implemented parallel Simulated Annealing algorithm to find a near-optimal parameters configuration of SGX-enabled libc libraries, which are the basis of current approaches for executing unmodified legacy applications on SGX.

Investigations on the usage of a new hardware-assisted trusted execution technology, namely Intel SGX, and its features to harden security-critical applications and enhance trust in cloud providers. The activity was basically focused on securing distributed cloud applications based on a microservice architecture. Approaches were studied to i) Integrate SGX within a Java-based microservice framework; ii) Increase the performance of SGX-enabled applications; iii) Address a limitation on protected memory usage.

Secure Enclaves for REactive Cloud Applications (SERECA)
    Jan 2015 - Jan 2018 (3 years 1 month)
The Secure Enclaves for REactive Cloud Applications (SERECA) is a H2020 project, which aims to remove technical impediments to secure cloud computing, and thereby encourage greater uptake of cost-effective and innovative cloud solutions in Europe. It proposes to develop a secure environment for reactive cloud application using the new Intel's CPU extension: Software Guard eXtension (SGX). SERECA allows the execution of sensitive code on Cloud platforms, without the need of trusting the public cloud operators. Furthermore, SERECA support regulatory-compliant data localisation by allowing applications to securely span multiple cloud data centres.
