Founder and Director of Thinkery
New York, United States
My name is Talia Varonos-Pavlopoulos, and I am a teacher at The Nightingale-Bamford School in Manhattan. At Nightingale I have the pleasure of teaching Latin and Ancient Greek in the Middle and Upper School, and I created and direct the Thinkery, an after-school program that serves students in grades 4-8. Before joining the Nightingale community I was a graduate student at NYU, where I taught Mythology, worked as a Teaching Assistant for various undergraduate courses, excavated with Professor Joan Connelly in Yeronisos, Cyprus, and earned an M.A. in Classics in 2013. I chose to attend NYU after graduating from the School of General Studies at Columbia University in 2009 with a B.A. in Classics. During my time at Columbia, I experienced an intellectual awakening that led me to major in Classics, direct a play in Ancient Greek, and take an array of classes ranging from Cultures in the Modern Middle East to Latin Prose Composition, and I relished every minute of it. I bring the same enthusiasm, optimism, and energy to my work at Nightingale that I brought to my own studies at NYU and Columbia, and it is my hope that, just as my professors and teachers inspired me, I will inspire my students to fearlessly ask questions, meet challenges with confidence and gumption, and become lifelong learners.
