The aim of my research was investigating three kinds of processes — exploratory, argumentative, and definition-building, all of which are involved in problem solving and theorem generation — in an early stage of schooling. In preparing and realizing the experimental part, for what concerns the methodological approach, I referred to Brousseau’s Theory of Didactical Situations. Vygotsky’s theory concerning scientific concepts in early age was also taken into consideration along with the theories of figural concepts, cognitive unit and structural continuity, fields of experience, mathematical discussion, PGC’s, and the role of language in exploring, conjecturing and validating.
