    The Jacob Kooman Public Health Practice Award is given each year to an executive student who exemplifies Dr. Koomen’s commitment to public health. Dr. Koomen was the Director of North Carolina’s Division of Health Services form 1966-1978, and was a member of the HPAA faculty from 1978 until his retirement in 1985. He was a wonderful addition to the teaching faculty, sharing his expertise in community health administration and critically needed field experience. He is also remembered as being a powerful public speaker.
