In Helmand, conducted Operation MOSHTARAK, the clearance of the Taliban from central Helmand.

As Chief of Staff 3 (UK) Div, deployed to Southern Iraq in June 2006 to become MND(SE). Planned and executed Operation SINBAD, an attempt to restore order in Basra. MND(SE) consisted of 20 Armd Bde, succeeded by 19 (Mech) Bde. The division also included an Italian Brigade, an Australian Battlegroup, and a Danish battlegroup.

In UK, 3 (UK) Div included 1, 12, 19 and 101 Bdes.

1 BW moved from Fallingbostel, Germany to become the Land Warfare Centre Battlegroup in March 2004. But a month later it was warned for operations in Iraq and fought in southern Iraq during Operation TELIC 4, fighting in Basra and Al Amarah. In November 2004, it was warned for operations in Central Iraq and conducted Operation BRACKEN and Camp Dogwood in North Babil Province, during Operation PHANTOM STORM, the battle for Fallujah.
