Senior Tech & AI Counsel | Product & Transactions | Amazon
Washington, United States
I'm a legal leader with over 12 years of experience in commercial law, emerging technology, and AI. For the past six years at Amazon, I've led worldwide legal teams — first supporting Amazon Photos, a cloud storage service used by tens of millions of customers, and now leading legal for Alexa Enterprise, where my team supports the global B2B operations for Alexa+, Amazon's generative AI-powered assistant.
My day-to-day centers on what I enjoy most about practicing law: helping businesses move fast on complex deals without taking on unnecessary risk. I partner closely with sales, product, and engineering teams to negotiate enterprise customer contracts and strategic partnerships, advise on product design and feature launches (including generative AI and LLM-powered features), build scalable legal infrastructure (templates, playbooks, processes), and navigate the rapidly evolving AI regulatory landscape. I've also built and mentored the legal team supporting these efforts — something I find genuinely rewarding.
Before Amazon, I spent seven years as in-house counsel at a federal contractor, where I built a commercial transactions practice, developed compliance programs across complex regulatory frameworks, and managed relationships with government agencies. That experience gave me a broad foundation and an appreciation for working in heavily regulated environments.
Areas where I've focused most of my career: enterprise SaaS and technology transactions, commercial and product legal team leadership, AI product counseling and responsible AI governance, Go-to-Market and sales legal support, data privacy and regulatory compliance, and building legal infrastructure from the ground up.
I also enjoy building with AI outside of work. I created Naismith AI, a live fantasy basketball analytics platform that uses self-tuning ML projections to process real-time NBA data and deliver pickup recommendations through a custom iOS app and automated social media feeds. It's been a fun way to deepen my understanding of the products and technology I advise on professionally.
When I'm not working, you'll find me boating with my wife and our Australian Shepherds (Fitzgerald and Theodore), trying new restaurants, or gaming.
