Living in the Valley of Underdetermination
    eflux
    Dec 2024
The essay 'Living in the Valley of Underdetermination' on rising levels of underdetermination in biological sciences. Written with scientists from Novo Nordisk Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Lund Cancer Centre and Natural History Museum Denmark after the production of an art film with artist Jenna Sutela. It explores issues of unknowability and epistemic uncertainty in biodiversity research and biomedical sciences. I propose that the declines in scientific certainty have severe cultural and political implications, that has plenty of historical precedence, but currently seems to lack attention.

Burning Big Piles of Hot Peppers
    Strange Attractor Press
    Sep 2023
The essay Burning Big Piles of Hot Peppers for the book Catastrophe Time! explores mythological dimensions of growing uncertainties of the 21st century, focusing on the economic and computational limits emerging in the context of ecological disasters and the psychological dimensions involved in cycles of devastation. The essay opens by outlining a broad set of crises—climate change, resource depletion, political instability, and economic uncertainty—that are reshaping life on Earth. It argues that while models attempt to predict these shifts, their complexity makes precise forecasting impossible. It discusses how economic growth has detached from material realities and how even the most advanced computational systems struggle to model the i

Future Art Ecosystems: Art x Decentralized Tech
    Serpentine Galleries
    Nov 2022
Through an editorial collaboration with the Arts Technologies team at Serpentine Galleries I was a part of developing the intelligence report Future Art Ecosysted Techms 3: Art x Decentralise (FAE3). FAE3 addresses the possibilities for a more interoperable (i.e. cross-organisationally integrated) vision for 21st century cultural infrastructure. FAE3 identifies new patterns for organisational and creative innovation within the broader space of decentralised technologies, variably dubbed as 'web3', 'crypto' and 'dweb'. Through a series of interviews with specialists across art, web3, crypto, dweb, innovation policy and civic, the briefing articulates various horizons for reconfiguring how practitioners and the cultural sector at large can op

    Mobilities In Planning
    Roskilde University Phd dissertation
    Jan 2016

    The Volatility of Automobility
    Roskilde Universitet
    Aug 2010
This thesis seeks to outline potential changes to the relation between car and individual, brought by the introduction of electric vehicles. A central aim of the analytical work is to outline theoretical and methodological procedures, to examine potential future changes on the basis of empirical studies of present phenomena. The empirical starting point is interviews with 9 Danish electrical vehicle users, that all have chosen to purchase and use electrical vehicles. The analytical focus of this thesis is to show how the experiences and reflections of these 9 individuals can be viewed as potential changes in the way the relationship between individual and car is socially organized. The results of the analytical work shows how potential tipp

    Reflections from Transport Politics
    Roskilde Universitet
    May 2008
Analysis of contemporary danish transport politics, through the reflections and values brought forward by danish politicians. The thesis emphasizes the importance of the processes known from reflexive modernisation, when politicians organise their political agendas, from visions to practice. The empirical background consists of 9 interviews with members of the trafic counsil under the danish Parliament, carried out during the winter of 2008.
