As a Principal Solutions Architect at phData, I was responsible for providing high level Hadoop infrastructure and software architecture guidance for our customers, along with managing the P&L for our Big Data Consulting business unit. Our team of Solution Architects, Data Engineers and Scrum Masters help clients ingest, transform, model and visualize data on the Hadoop platform, using Kafka, Spark, Kudu and all the other standard Hadoop technologies. In addition to helping our clients with architecture, design, development and support, we also focus on continuing education - ensuring our clients are benefiting from the fast paced evolution in big data technologies.

As a Solution Architect at phData, I focused on helping Twin Cities companies implement their Hadoop capabilities and on-board business units. I primarily worked in the medical device industry working on archive and live ingest feeds into Hadoop for data integration and ultimately deeper business intelligence. We also helped with some of the operation functions of Hadoop, ensuring the capability were stood up and supported in a sustained manner.

As a Sr. Software Engineer, I worked on writing build and deployment software for our online applications, along with helping write software for our internal health monitors for Westlaw.com. I also supported the version control tools (CVS and VSS at the time) along with our in-house build system.

I was promoted to a Software Engineer to work within the build and deploy teams for both content and application technologies. I wrote mostly Ant scripts for our Java platforms, and at the time NAnt, for our Microsoft stacks. We also had some C which I wrote in MAKE. Over time, my role also including writing software enhancements to our internal build system, most notably the "Ant" task.

As a Tech Support representative, I worked with our external customers helping them get everything from our browser print plug-in installed, to troubleshooting data corruptions with our bankruptcy software. I also helped support internal desktops for our 6000 internal users.
