Influence of habits and motivation on the performance of freshmen engineering students
May 2015
This study aims to discover how study habits, attitude in class, motivation and intelligence influence in academic performance for first year students in Engineering grades. To this end, we have conducted a survey to 135 freshmen studying one of the 9 degrees of engineering at the Universidad de Navarra. The analysis of these results shows that while intelligence is a key factor, the attitude in class or, above all, motivation significantly affect academic performance. Some lines of action to encourage and motivate students in their academic performance are proposed.
