I have over 25 years of professional experience writing software, and 18+ years leading and managing software teams and organizations.
I lead teams in order to build great products and successful companies. I strive for strong relationships on my teams and robustness & loose coupling in my systems. My opinions are formed from experience, empathy and sound logic.
I have worked in many capacities and with many processes, team structures, and software systems over the years, in early-stage startups, medium-size, and large businesses; in enterprise SaaS, consumer Internet, and consumer manufacturing and retail product spaces. I have been a successful leader of many people, a head of product development, and an operational and logistics leader at scale.
As a software engineer, I've worked successfully with Ruby, JavaScript, Python, PHP, Java, and Perl in large-scale production environments. I’ve dabbled in several more, and Elixir and Elm have been capturing my recent attention. Web applications and APIs are my preferred media when I write my own software. I still write code to learn and create on my own time. I’m also pretty good at spreadsheets.
I care most about working with great people who are fiercely competent, and who care deeply about shipping quality products and building quality teams, consistently and sustainably. I take immense joy from helping others grow their skills and careers in software, management, product development, and business. I want to work with people and products that challenge me to become an even better leader.
