A Machinery Repairman (MR) in the U.S. Navy is a skilled technician responsible for fabricating, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment and machinery used aboard ships, submarines, and shore facilities. MRs operate precision machines such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce metal parts that are often critical to the ship’s operation. They repair engines, pumps, valves, turbines, and auxiliary systems, ensuring all mechanical components function safely and efficiently. MRs also read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics to troubleshoot complex issues. They perform preventive maintenance, measure and align machinery, and sometimes assist in welding and pipefitting. Whether working independently
