I approach product engineering through a cross-functional lens — bringing the customer’s experience into every conversation across quality, engineering, product, customer success, and operations.
My job has never been to simply build software that passes the tests. I’m here to build products that hold the standards customers actually feel.
I’ve spent more than 25 years defining what quality engineering leadership looks like, and that responsibility has become even more important in an AI-native world.
Today, I’m asking the same of our agentic coworkers. AI doesn’t change the standard. It raises the importance of building systems, governance, and teams that earn trust at scale.
I've applied this philosophy through periods of significant organizational change — from acquisition readiness at Plex Systems to public company preparation at Motive. By shifting quality from a testing function to an engineering capability and embedding reliability into board-level decision-making, I’ve helped strengthen the operational discipline these companies needed to scale with confidence.
At Motive, I built an AI-native quality organization before company mandates existed, and demonstrated that disciplined governance and rapid AI adoption can coexist. The result wasn’t just faster product delivery — it was greater customer confidence in every release.
The human side of engineering has always been inseparable from the technical one for me. As a longtime AnitaB.org speaker and mentor, a Lesbians Who Tech mentor, and a founder of women-in-tech programs at the companies I've led, I work to widen access to engineering leadership — through mentorship, pay-equity advocacy, and inclusive hiring. Building systems that earn trust and building teams that reflect the customers they serve are, for me, one mission.
The next chapter of engineering leadership won’t be defined by how quickly we adopt AI. It will be defined by the conviction to build organizations that know when to trust it, when to challenge it, and how to keep the customer at the center of every decision.
