I have a desire to innovate from within an organization. I'm happy to embrace new technology but, with 20 years experience, I know that technology is not always the answer. I tease out the problems an organization may be facing through research and interviews, think about how things operate within a system, and craft solutions that address needs with an eye towards sustainable solutions. With experience ranging from mobile web and responsive design, design systems, content modeling and creation, APIs, hardware management and digital marketing I have the skills to help an organization across a broad array of needs.For the last three years I've been focused on improving communications and content related to enrollment at a higher education institution with almost 30,000 students. I've been able to continually push our efforts forward. From:* leading the redesign of the main enrollment website that saw a 30% increase in applications to * developing a system to centralize program information to enable content re-use across the institution with a focus on SEO to * building a tool our team has used to efficiently build high-impact HTML emails to * rolling out the first large-scale digital ad campaign for undergraduate enrollment using Google Ads I've also built and released several open source projects including: Pattern Lab, a tool to build thoughtful, pattern-driven interfaces; Detector, a JS/PHP server-side feature-detection library; Throttle, a node.js-based utility for throttling network speed to test mobile sites; and the PHP library of ua-parser.Specialities: PHP; Node.js; JavaScript; HTML5; Git; Subversion; Apache; Amazon Web Services platforms including Lambda, DynamoDB, SNS, CloudSearch; 3rd party products like Contentful, Data Studio, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Moz, TargetX/Salesforce, and Teamwork; techniques like responsive design and search engine optimization as well as long walks on the beach.
