      With the advent of modern technology, the nature and character of man's actions have fundamentally changed. No longer is man powerless to upset the appointed balance of nature, and this fact imbues his actions with an added degree of responsibility. This thesis uses this argument, proffered by the philosopher Hans Jonas, as a starting point for a critique of Article III standing precedent as it currently exists. This thesis explains the history and purpose of standing, as well as Jonas' arguments, and using the paradigm set forth in Jonas' philosophical treatise "The Imperative of Responsibility," critiques current standing doctrine for its failure to recognize the "altered nature of human action."
