As a pediatric and adult neurosurgeon at Children's National Hospital and George Washington University, and founder of the Surgical Data Science Collective (SDSC), I’m passionate about advancing neurosurgery through clinical excellence, cutting-edge research, and innovative technology. Based in Washington, D.C., I specialize in complex pediatric neurological conditions while pioneering the integration of AI and ML into surgical practice.
My research bridges technological innovation with practical application, ensuring advances in AI translate into tangible benefits for patients and families. As Principal Investigator of an NIH K23 Grant focused on "Video Analysis of Neurosurgical Technical Performance and Adverse Events," I'm leading research using AI to enhance surgical safety and training. This passion has resulted in over 200 academic papers, conference abstracts, and talks focused on AI, computer vision, and data science in surgery.
As the founder of SDSC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our mission is to build a global hub for surgical data, particularly video. We connect communities of surgeons and scientists through ML and data science tools to improve the practice of surgery. SDSC and its communities generate new discoveries in surgical data science, making discoveries and data accessible to surgeons and scientists anywhere on earth, and creating impactful implementations of surgical data science.
